Biophonic Beats @ Marshall University [2018.03.28]

We are honored to be “Edwards Distinguished Professor of the Arts” Visiting Artists at Marshall University this spring. During our residency we will be presenting an expanded version of Biophonic Beats that will include student ensembles performing as groups of instrumental species in our sonic ecosystem.

Biophonic Beats is a simulacrum of the interlocking sonic umwelten created by different species of vocalizing non-human animals. In any given environment, the sounds created by an individual species will shift and adapt to changes in the soundscape. The shifting, adaptive texture of Biophonic Beats is derived from the manufactured human rituals of communal dance; re-imagining anthropophony as biophony.
